NE India Road Trip with Hornbill Festival

DAY 1: Guwahati – Shillong

Arrival at Guwahati Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi Airport and meet our representative who will also be your travel guide throughout your journey. After that, directly proceed to Shillong. Shillong is also known as the Scotland of the East. En route visit Barapani which is also known as Umiam Lake surrounded by beautiful hills and a picturesque location is highly refreshing. Arriving at Shillong visit Lady Hydari Park and Wards Lake (Timings 9:00 to 16:30 and Sundays closed). Check in to the hotel and overnight stay at Shillong

DAY 2: Shillong – Cherrapunji

Morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Cherrapunjee. On the way to Cherrapunjee you can visit Elephant falls. Elephant Falls are located approximately 7 km from Shillong on the way to Cherrapunjee. You may have to climb down 350-400 steps to enjoy these beautiful waterfalls. Cherrapunjee is the land of wonderful waterfalls and beautiful valleys. Some of the main attractions are the Seven Sister Falls, Nohkalikai Falls, Garden of Caves, Arwah Cave and Eco Park. Mawsmai caves near Cherrapunji are an experience in itself, the limestone caves are well lit up. Check in to the hotel. Overnight stay in a hotel at Cherrapunjee.

DAY 3: Cherrapunji– Dawki – Mawlynnong – Shillong

Morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Dawki. En route visit:  Bophill Falls. Dawki is a small town in Jaintia Hills district. The main attraction is the Umngot River where you can witness Crystal Clear water during winter Season you also visit Suspension Bridge and Tamabil Indo-Bangladesh border.  After lunch drive to Mawlynnong. You can go for a walk in the cleanest village in Asia. The main attractions are Single Decker Living Root Bridge and Balancing Rock. Also visit: Sky View Bangladesh View Point please note that it is closed on Sundays. Evening back to Shillong. Overnight stay at Shillong.

DAY 4: Shillong – Kaziranga

This morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and proceed to Kaziranga National Park. Kaziranga is an UNESCO World Heritage site. This is famous for one horn Rhinoceros and the many flora and fauna.  Elephant safari and Jeep Safari are the main activities in the park. Arriving at Kaziranga check in to the hotel. Overnight stay at Kaziranga.

DAY 5: Kaziranga – Dirang

Early morning you can go for Elephant safari reporting at 5.00 am (Cost not included). After that go for Jeep Safari (Cost included). Back to hotel and enjoy your breakfast. After that check out from the hotel and proceed to Dirang. Dirang is a charming town located in the north-eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. En route visit: the Tipi Orchidarium near Bhalukpong which has over 2000 orchid’s varieties. Arrive at Dirang and visit Dirang Monastery. Check in to the hotel and rest of the day free for leisure. Overnight at Dirang hotel.

DAY 6: Dirang - Tawang

Morning after breakfast, check-out from the hotel and visit Sangti Valley. After that proceed to Tawang. Tawang is the 6th Dalai Lama’s birth place. Tawang is one of the most spectacular destinations for any tourist. Tawang is located at a height of 12000 ft above sea level. It is a land of Monpa Tribes. Sela pass: It is a narrow pass in the mountainous regions of Arunachal Pradesh, at an elevation of 13,700 ft above mean sea level and it signals our entry into the Tawang valley. There are many scenic spots on the way to Tawang. i.e. Paradise Lake and Jung falls which is also known as Nurang falls. Check in to the hotel. Overnight at Tawang hotel.

DAY 7: Tawang - Bum La Pass - Madhuri Lake

This morning after breakfast, you can go for Bumla Pass: - It lies about 25-30 km from Tawang on the Indo China border. It offers tourists some amazing scenic beauty at an altitude of 15,000 feet above sea level. Here the Indian army greets you with warm hospitality and looks after your safety. This is an off the beat tourist spot that you may not find in other parts of the country. En route visit: PTSO Lake, Madhuri Lake. After that back to Tawang and and you can go Tawang Local Sightseeing, The main attraction of Tawang is the 400 years old Tawang Monastery, Giant Buddha Statue, Dorjee Khandu Memorial by evening you can go for Light & Sound  Show after that back to the hotel. Overnight stay at Tawang.

DAY 8: Tawang Local Sightseeing

This morning after breakfast, you can go Tawang Local Sightseeing, The main attraction of Tawang is the 400 years old Tawang Monastery, Giant Buddha Statue, Dorjee Khandu Memorial. By evening you can enjoy Light & Sound Show after that back to the hotel. Overnight stay at Tawang hotel.

DAY 9: Tawang – Bomdila

This morning after breakfast proceed to Bomdila. En route visit Bomdila Monastery.  Bomdila monastery was built in 1965 by the twelfth incarnation of the Tsona Gontse Rinpoche. And was rebuilt by the thirteenth reincarnation, Tsona Gontse Rinpoche renovated the monastery by building a larger prayer hall. Inside the Gompa, there's a huge prayer, which is used by the lamas for praying; the temple of Buddha, and a tiny quarter of monks. Apart from its religious significance, the monastery is also known for its natural beauty. Bomdila view the point provides a magnanimous view of the entire West Kameng Valley from the highest point of this place. Overnight stay at Bomdila Hotel.

DAY 10: Bomdila – Tezpur

This morning after breakfast, check-out from the hotel and proceed to Tezpur. Check in at hotel. After refreshing visit Mahabhairab Temple, Chitralekha Udyan and Agnigarh Park. Overnight stay at Tezpur.

DAY 11: Tezpur - Kohima

This morning after breakfast directly proceed to Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. Arrive at Kohima and visit Kohima War Cemetery and Nagaland State Museum (If time permits). And then check into your hotel. Evening free for leisure. Overnight stay in a hotel at Kohima.

DAY 12: Kohima – Kisama Village for Hornbill Festival – Kohima

Morning after breakfast, visit to Kisama Village.  Kisama is 12 km from Kohima on the National Highway number 39. The gentle slope at the base of a steep mountain peak is the venue for the famed Hornbill Festival (it is held from 1 st  – 10 th  December every year). Enjoy your day at Kisama Hornbill Festival. Evening back to the hotel. Overnight stay at Kohima.

DAY 13: Kohima – Khonoma/ Kisama – Kohima

This morning after breakfast visit Khonoma Village. Khonoma is an Angami Naga village located about 20 km west from the state capital, It is the first green village in India. It is famous for its forests and a unique form of agriculture. The hills are covered with lush forestland, rich in various species of flora and fauna. The state bird, Blyth’s Tragopan, a pheasant now nationally endangered, is repeatedly found here. Then after lunch visit Kisama Village. Enjoy your day at Kisama Hornbill Festival. Evening back to Kohima. Overnight stay at Kohima.

DAY 14: Kohima to Guwahati

Morning after breakfast checks out from the hotel and directly proceeds to Guwahati. Arrive at Guwahati and check in to the hotel. Overnight stay at Guwahati.

DAY 15: Guwahati  Departure

This morning after breakfast check out from the hotel and directly proceeds Guwahati Airport for your onwards journey with everlasting memories.
